Self Care: The Importance It Haas To Our Mental Health

 In Blog

Two of the most common reasons why we often neglect to practice self-care is the lack of time and energy. To add, our feelings of guilt and selfishness plus our financial situations often also contribute as factors. A lot of people say self-care may appear selfish, however in reality.

Self care must be done for us to be alive.

If you think about mental health treatment, what words would usually come to your mind?

Medication? Therapy of all kinds? There is something common to all of them. They are prescribed by some licensed mental health professionals. However, the last piece of the puzzle can be implemented on one’s own: SELF CARE.

The importance of self-care for mental health can’t be overstated, even for those who are doing very well. If you don’t take good care of yourself, everything else will be challenging. These methods work. Yet, they cannot function effectively if you neglect yourself.

Intuitively, self-care promotes mental health. Exercise, eating well, and sleeping well, all affect our physical health as well as giving us energy to do what needs to be done every day.

But how do daily activities, hobbies, baths, and the like make a difference to mental health? Here are our list of reasons:

  1. Yourself and the people that surrounds you

Here’s some good news if you think that self-care is in fact selfish. Without caring for yourself, you’re not going to be able to care for others. As RuPaul puts it:

“If you can’t love yourself, how in the hell you gonna love somebody else?”

In other words, you are the one you need to spend most of your time with. By neglecting your own needs, you are neglecting your caring skills altogether. Conversely, when you give yourself love and care, you develop your caring skills and naturally develop a more compassionate and empathic relationship with others.

      2. Feeling of Security

At the end of the day, anxiety is a symptom of feeling unsafe in one way or another. Unlike fear, it is not an urgent, life-threatening sense of danger that we’re concerned about. Anxiety, on the other hand, has to do with the things that keep our environment in order.

Unfortunately, the only way to solve the difficulties caused by excessive anxiety is to correct everything in our lives and keep everything under control. That’s impossible, especially when we don’t have much control most of the time.

Therapy can help us learn to manage our anxiety, but self-care plays a bigger role. Self-care, quite simply, makes us feel cared for. We feel safe when we know we’re being looked after. The anxiety’s potency is reduced by this sense of security. The triggering factors will still be there, but through self-care, you will be a stronger person, capable of handling whatever life throws at you.

   3. Because You’re Worthy

One common thing to consider in most mental problems is when you have an unstable sense of self-worth. You’re thinking who you’re and, most of the time, whether or not you matter at all. You’re not even sure if you deserve the good things you are receiving.

Whatever the reason is, you need to expand your self awareness to allow yourself to heal. Self-care is a great start. Taking care of yourself is a realistic demonstration of your very own self-worth. In a way, it’s as though you’re “faking it til you’re making it”.

Self-care is something that we can’t and shouldn’t ought to jeopardize. We all have mental health, and it’s very critical that we nurture our health and wellbeing by working towards self-care.

In addition, self-care encourages self-improvement. It promotes peace of mind and relaxation, which benefits our general health and wellness, and it additionally promotes healthful relationships. When our self-esteem and self-focus improves, it has a high-quality impact on our common mindset. This, in turn, allows us to take care of our loved ones in a manner that we might not have been capable of doing before.

Always remember to be good to yourself by taking care of yourself. Make yourself a priority and know that it’s okay. Don’t feel guilty for loving yourself, first! You’re just as important as anybody else.
